Processing times for Regional Sponsored Migration 

Scheme applications

19 June 2015

Skilled Migration Western Australia (SMWA) is currently receiving a high volume of applications for certification advice under the Regional Sponsored Migration Scheme (RSMS) and the processing timeline has been extended until further notice.  

Applications are expected to be finalised within 45 working days of receipt.

A new year, a new location!

5 January 2015

Migration Services, including the Overseas Qualifications Unit, Skilled Migration Western Australia and Skills Assessments International are moving on 12 January 2015.

Our new office will be a short walk from the old location at Level 7 of the GPO Building at 3 Forrest Place, Perth.

The office and phone services will be closed from 1.00 pm Friday 9 January 2015. Phone services will be available again on Monday 12 January and we will reopen for on-site services on Tuesday 13 January.

We will be co-located with other services to form the new Department of Training and Workforce Development Customer Service Centre. 

Other services will include the Perth Aboriginal Workforce Development Centre, Education and Training International and the Career Centre.

The Skilled Migration Western Australia office will be closed from Thursday 25 December 2014 and will reopen on Monday
5 January 2015.

No assessment outcomes under the Regional Sponsored Migration Scheme will be sent during this time.

The processing of applications for advice under the Regional Sponsored Migration Scheme may also be delayed by approximately 10 working days in addition to the advertised processing times.

RSMS Change in Criteria

30 September 2014

Start-up businesses (operating less than 12 months) are no longer required to provide evidence of being in operation (for at least six months) before nominating a position to be certified under the Regional Sponsored Migration Scheme (RSMS).

  • checklist for applying for nomination certification; and

  • application form.

Pro​​cessing arrangements for Regional Sponsored Migration Scheme

13 June 2014​

Employer applications for certification advice for the Regional Sponsored Migration Scheme are assessed in order of receipt.

Priority processing is not available.

If you apply for a Regional Sponsored Migration Scheme visa before receiving certification advice from Skilled Migration Western Australia, it is possible that your visa application may be finalised prior to receiving the outcome of the employer’s application for certification advice.

It is the responsibility of the nominee to remain lawfully in Western Australia pending the outcome of the process and visa decision.

All queries regarding work restrictions on current visas should be directed to the Department of Immigration and Border Protection.

New Regional Sponsored Migration Scheme application form

18 December 2012

Skilled Migration Western Australia has launched a new and improved application form for nomination certification under the Regional Sponsored Migration Scheme.

The new form includes added features such as the ability to save and resume an application.

Skilled Migration WA expands its Regional Certifying Body role to more Western Australian regions

12 November 2012

Skilled Migration WA has taken over responsibility of several regions from the Regional Development Commissions and is now the regional certifying body (RCB) for the Regional Sponsored Migration Scheme (RSMS) for the following regions in the State:

• Gascoyne;
• Great Southern;
• Kimberley;
• Mid West;
• Peel;
• Perth;
• Pilbara;
• South West; and
• Wheatbelt.

Regional Development Australia will continue to be the RCB for the Goldfields-Esperance region.

Employer nominations under the direct entry stream for RSMS in the regions listed above will need to be assessed by SMWA.

The direct entry stream is for applicants who have never or only briefly worked in the Australian labour market.

Nominations for the Temporary Residence Transition stream and the Agreement stream do not require RCB assessment.

Certification is only required for applicants going through the direct entry stream.

The direct entry stream is for applicants untested in the Australian labour market who are in Australia and do not hold a subclass 457, or have not held a subclass 457 for the last two years, or who are applying from overseas.
