Need help with RSMS?

The Regional Sponsored Migration Scheme (RSMS) is a Department of Home Affairs program that allows Australian employers in regional Australia to sponsor (nominate) skilled migrants to fill employment vacancies, where there are no local Australians living in or wishing to move to the regional area where the nominated position is located.

Employers in regional Australia can nominate skilled migrants to fill a full time vacancy, ongoing for at least two years, where there is a demonstrated and genuine need for a paid employee.

The RSMS visa allows skilled migrants to work in Australia under one of two streams:

  • the Temporary Residence Transition stream; or
  • the Direct Entry stream

Under the Direct Entry stream the employer and nominated position must be assessed by an RSMS certifying body.

The Department of Training and Workforce Development, through Western Australia Migration Services, is a certifying body and provides advice to the
Department of Home Affairs on whether RSMS direct entry stream applications meet set requirements.

WA Migration Services accepts applications to certify positions for RSMS in the following regions throughout Western Australia:

  • Cocos and Christmas Islands;
  • Gascoyne;
  • Great Southern;
  • Kimberley;
  • Mid West;
  • Peel;
  • Pilbara;
  • South West; and
  • Wheatbelt.

The Perth metropolitan area is excluded from the definition of Regional Australia for the RSMS. Information about the RSMS is available on the Department of Home Affairs website.

The updated guidelines for certification can be found in the checklist for nomination certification.

    would move to, the local area concerned.
