State Nomination Invitation Rounds

Western Australia has received an overwhelming amount of applications for the State Nomination Migration Program.
To allow adequate time to process the large volume of applications prior to the end of the program year, invitation rounds for the remainder of the 2022-23 State nomination program year will be brought forward, and run in the first week of each month, commencing February 2023.

2022-23 SNMP program changes – expansion of the occupations available under General stream Schedule 1 & 2 – Changes to the State nomination requirements
21 August 2022
The WA Government has made changes to its migration program to support skilled workers looking to migrate to Western Australia including increasing occupations eligible for skilled migration in WA by around 60 per cent.
New occupations have been added to the Western Australian Skilled Migration Occupation List Schedule 1 (WASMOL Schedule 1) and the Western Australian Skilled Migration Occupation List Schedule 2 (WASMOL Schedule 2).
The list of newly available occupations can be found on the WA State Nomination – combined occupation list.
The WA Government has also waived the $200 application fee and has made changes to the requirements for new applicants as of 1 July 2022, including: Removal of the requirement to demonstrate sufficient funds for WA State nomination.
Reduction in the English requirements for applicants at the Manager and Professional occupation level to the "competent" level of English.
Changes to the document requirements for the WASMOL Schedule 1&2 and the Graduate Occupation lists based on the visa the applicant is being nominated for.
The next round of invitations to apply for WA State nomination are anticipated to be issued in the third week of September 2022.

Free Skilled Migrant Employment Register now available!
18 July 2022
The new Skilled Migrant Employment Register is a free initiative supporting employers and skilled migrants to connect to build the Western Australian workforce.
Skilled migrants seeking employment can indicate their interest to connect with the Western Australian workforce by completing the registration form. Once registered, de-identified details are published on the Skilled Migrant Employment Register, indicating to employers the interest to gain employment in Western Australia.
Employers have the opportunity to review the Skilled Migrant Employment Register to identify talent that may align with their business needs, and connect with a skilled migrant.
The WA Government's management of COVID-19 has helped keep the state's economy strong and stable. With world class education, healthy job opportunities and strong public health management, there is no better or safer place to live, work and study than WA.

2022-23 program changes - new applications being accepted from people residing overseas – and an expansion of occupations available under the Graduate stream.
23 May 2022
Commencing in the 2022-23 program year people residing overseas are now eligible to be considered for Western Australia (WA) State nomination. Invitations to apply for WA State nomination will be via the ranking system, giving preference to applicants currently residing in WA, followed by those residing in Australia and then those residing overseas.
The 2022-23 updated Western Australian State nomination criteria is now available.
The 2022-23 program year will also provide candidates the opportunity to access an expanded, more extensive, Graduate occupation list under the Graduate stream. With over 300 occupations becoming available.
The expanded Graduate occupation list will become available in 2022-23 and is outlined in the new
2022-23 WA State nomination – combined occupation list. An easy to follow table of the occupations available under the Western Australian skilled migration occupation list - schedule 1 and 2 and the Graduate occupation list.
Invitations to apply for WA State nomination under the new Graduate Occupation list will not commence until the 2022-23 program year.

Nomination allocations for the State Nominated Migration Program
25 March 2022
Western Australia has received an additional nomination allocation for the
State Nominated Migration Program, from the Department of Home Affairs, for the remainder of the 2021-22 program year.
With the additional nomination allocation now available, Migration Services will proceed with finalising State nomination applications currently on-hand. Applicants will be contacted as required.
New applications for State nomination are now being accepted, with the next invitation round anticipated to be held in the first week of April 2022.
To allow adequate time to process applications prior to the end of the program year, the May and June invitation rounds are expected to be brought forward and are anticipated to be held in the first week of each month.

State nomination migration program
11 March 2022
Western Australia has met their current quota of places for the State nomination program for 2021-22. On 4 August 2021, Premier Mark McGowan wrote to the Commonwealth Department of Home Affairs requesting an additional 5,000 places under the State nomination program. The February invitation round is temporarily suspended pending an additional nomination allocation being received from the Commonwealth Department of Home Affairs. Further information will be provided should additional places become available.

Western Australian State nomination allocations
1 February 2022
Western Australia has met their quota of places for the State nomination program for 2021-22. Migration Services is continuing to process applications for State nomination, however, any applications which meet the requirements to be approved will be placed on hold.
Applicants meeting the requirements to be approved will be contacted by email.
On 4 August 2021, the Premier Mark McGowan wrote to the Commonwealth Department of Home Affairs requesting an additional 5,000 places under the State nomination program.
Should additional places become available and Migration Services can proceed with the nomination, applicants will be contacted.

Changes to State nomination ranking system

The ranking system used for the issuing of invitations to apply for State nomination has changed, to give preference to applicants currently residing in Western Australia. The updated ranking system is as follows. 1. Applicants eligible for the General stream will be ranked in accordance with the table below. General stream | » Currently residing in Western Australia; | » currently residing in another Australian state or territory; | » highest EOI points score; and | » oldest EOI submission date. |

Changes to the State Nominated Migration Program occupation lists

Migration Services is implementing a number of changes to the
Western Australian Skilled Migration Occupation List Schedule 1 (WASMOL Schedule 1) and
Graduate Occupation List (GOL). The following occupations on the WASMOL Schedule 1 are no longer considered Regional WA Only, meaning applicants can use employment contracts from Perth, or anywhere in Western Australia to meet requirements for State nomination. New requirements and expanded occupation list for General stream
5 July 2021
The Western Australian skilled migration occupation list (WASMOL), which lists occupations available for WA State nomination through the General stream, has expanded to include a Schedule 1 and Schedule 2. Updated requirements are available for applicants for the General stream with an occupation listed on Schedule 2. This includes the following: - meet the Department of Home Affairs criteria for the intended visa subclass;
- meet the minimum English requirements for your occupation; and
- have a 12 month full time employment contract in Western Australia in the nominated (or closely related) occupation.
The existing requirements for the General stream will apply to applicants with an occupation on the WASMOL Schedule 1. The Graduate stream requirements remain unchanged. State Nominated Migration Program opening soon
4 January 2021
Invitations to apply for the State Nominated Migration Program will resume in January 2021. The Western Australian State nomination criteria have been revised inline with State health and economic recovery prioirties. The changes to the criteria are as follows. - Intending applicants must be currently residing in Australia to be invited and nominated.
- Intending applications subject to a section 48 bar, are not eligible for State nomination.
- If you are applying through the Graduate stream and due to COVID-19 you completed some of your Western Australian studies online (either onshore or offshore), you are now able to use this study toward the Western Australian study requirement.

July 2020 invitation round for State Nominated Migration Program

WA Migration Services is awaiting allocation of State nomination places from the Department of Home Affairs (Home Affairs) for the 2020-21 program year.
Invitation rounds have been paused during this time.
We will continue to assess applications received. Nominations in SkillSelect from 1 July 2020 will be dependent on Home Affairs confirming allocation of places for the new program year.

Retail Pharmacist no longer 'Regional WA Only'
24 April 2020
From 24 April 2020, the occupation Retail Pharmacist (ANZSCO 251513) which is currently available on the Graduate Occupation list is no longer considered a ‘Regional WA only’ occupation.
If you wish to be considered for Western Australian State Nomination under the occupation ‘Retail Pharmacist’ (ANZSCO 251513) through the Graduate stream, you will now be able to provide a six month full time permanent or fixed-term employment contract from any location within Western Australian. Alternatively, you can provide evidence of six months Australian work experience.
All evidence must meet the Graduate Stream requirements.

The occupation Retail Pharmacist (ANZSCO 251513) is now available on the

This occupation is restricted to 'Regional WA Only', meaning that you must be able to provide evidence of a job offer/contract of employment in a location defined by the Commonwealth as Category 3 - Regional Centres and Other Regional Areas (not Perth and Mandurah) to be eligible for State nomination.

Welcome news for international students – Graduate stream of the State Nominated Migration program expanded to include VET graduates

The Graduate stream of the State Nominated Migration Program provides a skilled migration pathway for international students graduating from university in Western Australia. From December 2019, the Graduate stream has been extended to include VET graduates who complete a qualification in Western Australia at Certificate III level or above. The Graduate stream is also more accessible for international students: - studies in higher education, VET (Certificate III level and above) and/or English language courses for overseas students (ELICOS) studies all count towards the requirement to study for two years in Western Australia.
- Graduates need to demonstrate either six months' work experience in Australia OR a six month employment contract in Western Australia, but not both. Previously international students needed to have 12 months of work experience plus a job offer for 12 months.

The criteria for the General stream of the State Nomination Migration Program will remain the same; however the Western Australian State Migration Occupation List (WASMOL) has been updated.

Changes to the Graduate Stream of the State Nomination Migration Program
17 October 2019
The State Nomination Migration Program (SNMP) Graduate stream will soon be more accessible for international students who study in Western Australia.
On 16 October 2019 Premier Mark McGowan announced that the Graduate Stream of the SNMP will be extended to include vocational education and training (VET) graduates who complete a qualification in Western Australia at Certificate III level or above, excluding trade occupations (unless approved for delivery to international students).
The first invitation round to include VET graduates will be issued in December 2019.
Other changes to the SNMP Graduate stream are: - studies in Higher Education, VET and/or English Language Intensive Courses for Overseas Students (ELICOS) will all count towards the requirement to study for two years in Western Australia.
- work experience and job offer requirements will also be reduced. Graduates will need to either demonstrate six months of work experience or a six month employment contract, but not both. Currently, international students need to have 12 months of work experience plus a job offer for 12 months.
A new Graduate Occupation List and updated eligibility criteria for the Graduate stream will be published on the Migration portal prior to the December invitation round.

Dentist and anaesthetist occupations restricted to Skilled Regional (Provisional) visa (subclass 489)
14 March 2019
On 11 March 2019, the Department of Home Affairs announced changes to the lists of eligible skilled occupations in the Migration (LIN/19/051: Specification of Occupations and Assessing Authorities) Instrument 2019.
Following this announcement, occupations Dentist (252312) and Anaesthetist (253211) which are currently available on the Graduate Occupation List will be restricted to a Skilled Regional (Provisional) visa (subclass 489). Further information is available on the

New graduate stream for State nomination now available

A new graduate stream is now available for Western Australian State nomination.The new stream is available to eligible university graduates who have studied for at least two years in Western Australia at a Western Australian university, and have an occupation on
the new Graduate occupation list for the intended visa subclass.

Changes to the Department of Home Affairs points test
2 July 2018
As of 1 July 2018 the Department of Home Affairs changed the minimum points requirement for State nominated visas to 65 points.
Previously, the requirement was 60 points.
In order to be eligible for State nomination, you must meet the Department of Home Affairs requirements.

Migration Services is moving

2017 Western Australian skilled migration occupation list

The Department of Training and Workforce Development has released the updated 2017 Western Australian Skilled Migration occupation list.
You must have an occupation on the WASMOL and have relevant Australian or overseas work experience to be invited to apply for State nomination.
All applicants are required to provide evidence of a minimum one year full-time employment contract for all occupations on the WASMOL.

New applications for the State Nominated Migration Program are being accepted with an interim
Western Australian skilled migration occupation list (WASMOL) targeting those occupations which are of a specialist nature and have compelling evidence of unmet demand at a State level.
The State Government will be consulting with industry to develop a new list which is expected to be complete and operational in late May 2017.
Further information will be posted on the migration portal as it becomes available.
All applications received before suspension of the program on 13 March 2017 will be processed according to the criteria that were in place prior to this date. Invitations issued to intending migrants before 13 March will be honoured and their applications processed.
